ILAC approval of BSI-EUROCAT testing laboratory facilitates international market access for clients

Press release - 22 November 2011

BSI-EUROCAT, Germany’s Notified Body for medical device testing and certification is proud to announce that it now fulfils the requirements of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).

The aim of the ILAC Arrangement is to develop a global network of accredited testing, calibration and inspection facilities that can be relied on to provide accurate data. National test reports are more likely to be approved if they comply with the ILAC requirements. This means that medical device customers using BSI’s testing and certification facilities will find it considerably easier to access international markets.

Being accredited by ILAC will enhance cross-border confidence in BSI’s testing of medical device products. It will also reduce barriers to trade and avoid incidences of re-testing and re-calibration upon entry into markets such as Brazil, where double testing procedures are common place resulting in significant cost.

“ILAC accreditation gives a clear message to our customers that BSI has the competence to perform testing at a global level. The accreditation will give them further confidence about working with BSI as their known and trusted local partner,” said BSI-EUROCAT’s Managing Director Werner Kexel.

“Using an ILAC accredited testing provider offers medical device manufacturers a number of benefits. These include a facilitated passage into global markets; the assurance that products comply with the required international standards; and an increased likelihood of international market acceptance of tested products and services,” he continued. “BSI’s vision is truly one of providing ‘a product tested once and accepted everywhere’.”
